Join us September 18th through the 20th in Ignacio, CO for the 2009 Ignacio Rocky Mountain Horse Expo. You’ll find plenty to do, see, and enjoy during every single minute of the three-day event.
The Colorado Horse Council has received a generous in-kind sponsorship from the La Plata Electric Association, whose staff members, Mark Schwantes, Jeannie Bennett and Ray Pierotti, have been instrumental in creating the “Green Ranch” component of the CHC’s Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in Ignacio, to be held September 18-20 at the Sky Ute Fairgrounds. (The Green element at the three previous 2009 Expos was sponsored and organized by the equally committed Rocky Mountain Farmers Union.)
Quincy the Horse is the first book in a children’s series underway by Farmington author-illustrator team Camille Matthews and Michelle Black. Quincy’s creators will have a booth at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in Ignacio, September 18-20, and there will be special time aside on the schedule Saturday and Sunday for parents and children to meet the author and get a personally autographed copy.
The Colorado Cowboy Challenge race, to be held in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo, September 18-20 in Ignacio, CO, is looking for undaunted cowboys and courageous cowgirls—and riders looking for some horseback fun. This is a timed, judged obstacle race, and skilled horsemanship is weighted equally with speed. The race committee has lowered entry fees to $45-$120, depending on division and EXCA membership, and entry forms are available at RockyMountainHorseExpo.com or by calling race chairs Jeri and Vern Friesen at (970) 382-8792, or the RMHE office at (303) 292-4981. Entries close at 10 a.m., Friday, September 18, but earlier registration is encouraged. All horses must have a negative Coggins (within 12 months) and a 30-day health certificate to enter the Sky Ute Fairgrounds facility.
The Rocky Mountain Horse Expo is looking for a few brave kids—or maybe MORE than a few—to try their skills at mutton bustin’. The sheep will be ready to go at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, in a special kid-sized chute by Priefert Ranch Equipment. Safety gear will be provided, and parental consent is required. Mutton busters should be between 3-8 years old, and weigh no more than 55 pounds. There will be a nominal charge to participate, and ribbons will be awarded for various categories.
The Extreme Cowboy Association and the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo are joining forces at the Sky Ute Fairgrounds in Ignacio, September 18-20, 2009, to stage a 3-day “Colorado Cowboy Challenge,” which is a timed, judged obstacle course race—and as Extreme Racing fans know, the wilier the obstacle, the wilder the ride.
Sometimes it takes a dedicated team to help a horse make it to a new, better life. The Colorado Horse Council is pleased to facilitate just that kind of teamwork at the upcoming Rocky Mountain Horse Expo scheduled for September 18-20 at the Sky Ute Fairgrounds in Ignacio, Colorado.
You told us what you wanted, and we listened. The fall Rocky Mountain Horse Expo at the Sky Ute Event Center in Ignacio, CO (September 18-20) brings expert clinicians to answer your requests for a broad array of topics, from colt-starting to carriage driving. The “Green Ranch College,” sponsored by La Plata Electric Association, will focus on “greening up” the horse property or ranch with seminars on barn retrofits, composting, solar design and more. Goods at the trade show will suit every budget, with tack and equipment you’ll use every day, custom and premade saddles, unique jewelry, even home décor—bring your Christmas shopping list. Little buckaroos can get their faces painted, then run the barrels and poles on stick horses. And yes, there will be live horses, too: the Expo presents twice-daily breed, discipline and individual horse demonstrations, and brings sellers and buyers together for private treaty sales.
RFD-TV’s popular horseman Ryan Gingerich will appear at 2009 Rocky Mountain Horse Expos in Eagle and Ignacio, Colorado, and at the 2010 Denver Horse Expo. Known for his expertise with rehabilitating horses, Gingerich teaches horse owners to develop a plan for training and riding.
