Versatile Clinician Troy Rogers Demonstrates Versatile Ranch Horse
at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in Durango
October 5-7, 2007
Cowhorse, Reining and Versatility Ranch Horse Competitor, Trainer, Clinician and Instructor—all these apply to Troy Rogers, but put together, they add up to Horseman. Troy will be bringing his wide range of skills to the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in Durango, teaching clinics on “Starting a Horse on Cattle” and “Versatile Ranch Horse Competition Skills.”
Troy will also be doing several demonstrations of an actual Ranch Versatility contest. This test of all-around performance horse skills includes an array of challenges that a horseman and his mount might encounter in daily rounds on a working ranch—but cranked up a little to make the tasks a mite more exciting. Cutting, reining, roping, and penning are all included, plus the team must demonstrate sensible and correct gaits, manners, and conformation. Trailer loading is sometimes tested, as well as dragging logs, crossing water, and stopping a cow. It’s a lively crowd-pleaser of a competition to watch, even for horse enthusiasts who never see themselves swinging a rope or doing a flying lead change. And the horsemanship skills of a seasoned hand like Troy are as subtle and well-honed as those of the finest dressage rider.
Troy Rogers is one good reason to attend the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in Durango this year, but there are many more. The Horse Expo also features breed and stallion demonstrations, private treaty horse sales, exceptional shopping, special youth program on Friday (free admission for students that day), activities for kids, and more. Enjoy the Horse Expo by day, then take in the Durango Cowboy Gathering in the evenings (DurangoCowboyGathering.org).
For more information and schedules, visit RockyMountainHorseExpo.com or call (303) 292-4981. Come to the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in Durango, October 5-7.
