Colorado Horse Council President Addresses the Problem of Unwanted Horses
at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in Durango
October 5-7, 2007
The Rocky Mountain Horse Expo is pleased to welcome Christopher D. Whitney, president of the Colorado Horse Council, to speak at the Durango event. Mr. Whitney will explore the growing problem of unwanted and unusable horses in Colorado and throughout the United States. He will review the current status of federal and state bans on the slaughter of horses and will discuss some potential implications, social and economic, of such a ban in the larger context of the explosion in unwanted horses. He will also describe solutions being explored by private and public individuals and organizations to address the problem for the long term.
The Colorado Horse Council works to support and promote the interests of the many ranches and equine support businesses as well as the more than 55,000 horse owners that make up the Colorado horse industry. More information about the CHC is available at coloradohorsecouncil.com or (303) 292-4981. Christopher Whitney is a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Youth Horse Council. In addition to his current service on the CHC Board of Directors, Mr. Whitney practices law in Colorado Springs, having previously practiced in Washington, D.C. His family ranched in Ridgway, CO, during Mr. Whitney’s youth.
