Green Ranch & Home Show to Feature “Resourceful” Technology
Event will partner with the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo
Denver – March 13-15, 2009

Renewable, sustainable, green—interest in “resourceful” practices has never been higher, but balancing environmental responsibility with economic reality can be a challenge for everyone, whether their interests are agricultural or urban. Sometimes even finding up-to-date information can be difficult. The Green Ranch & Home Show will tackle the problem directly, running as a companion to the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in Denver, March 13-15, 2009.

RMHE Executive Director Brian Kitchen sees the event as an opportunity to connect industry providers with end users. “This is critical in the field of energy technology, such as solar and wind generation,” he says, but adds that it also applies to food and feed, farm practices, machinery, equipment and building materials.

“We plan to create an information bridge,” Kitchen says, “for rural and ranching consumers.” And because many resource-sparing practices and products have wide application, Kitchen adds, “Our program will appeal to city and suburban homeowners as well.”

The Green Ranch & Home Show will feature a “Green Resources University” with speakers bringing the latest information on:

  • Advances in solar, wind, and bio-fuels technology
  • Legal and financial aspects, such as energy audits, carbon exchanges, alternative energy tax credits
  • Grants and funding sources for “green” installations
  • Wise-use practices such as recycling and composting
  • Gardening “resourcefully” in the Rocky Mountain west.
  • Farm-to-market connections to tap into the “buy fresh, buy local” movement

Plus, the Green Ranch & Home Show will provide a marketplace for producers of green products and technology to make personal connections with their customers. Kitchen says the “Green Trade” part of the show will offer “a diverse range of goods and services,” everything from small turbines to gravity-fed waterers, green barn materials to bio-fueled tractors.

But let’s not forget that the event will take place side by side with the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo. Horsemen are concerned about the environment, and will be pleased with what the Green Ranch & Home Show adds to the familiar horse event—but Kitchen also hopes it will draw in visitors from outside the equine world and introduce them to the “original renewable energy resource, the horse.” Exchanging a hefty carbon footprint for the light tread of a hoofprint may turn out to be an idea whose time has come.
