Dr. John Stulp, Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture, will be Sunday’s keynote speaker at the Green Ranch & Home Show, taking place in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo at the National Western Complex. His presentation will focus on the present technology and future prospects for bio-fuels in Colorado agriculture.

You might say rancher Gail Allen has a shelf full of cowboy hats, even if they’re only metaphorical. Every day he works with his wife Millie, their family, friends and day hands to make the Broken Spear cow/calf operation a La Junta, CO area success story. On Tuesday evenings, he leads the Valley Cowboy Church at the La Junta Livestock Auction Barn. And on some weekends, he joins team members to compete in ranch rodeo. Every part of his life is a ministry in one way or another and has been for the past twenty years, since he began to follow this road at the high school rodeos where his five daughters were competing.

Huge Shire horses don’t often look busy, even when they are. But next week, Kate and Lace, 18- hand high Shires owned by Anderson Alfalfa and the company’s equine specialist Darin Henry, will be covering ground around Denver and at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo. Elegant, calm and friendly, these horses make friends wherever they appear.

Ranch Rodeo and Extreme Cowboy Race on the same weekend—the action is non-stop at the Denver Rocky Mountain Horse Expo, March 13-15, 2009.

Isn’t it true? Horse activities are just plain more fun when youngsters get involved. So the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo is offering a number of “kid-friendly” activities before and during the Expo in Denver.

The historic draft horse of Norway, the Fjord, is equally capable of pulling a heavy wagon in the field or an elegant carriage on a Sunday drive, but this tough little horse can do a lot more. At the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in Denver, members of the newly formed Rocky Mountain Fjord Horse Club will put on a display certain to convince the audience that the Fjord is a horse for all reasons—and activities.

Any kid from 5-14 can compete in the Cowboys for Kids “Extreme Dummy Roping” on Saturday morning, March 14, at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in Denver. Contestants win prizes, and proceeds from the nominal roping fee goes to a great cause—the Cowboys for Kids scholarship fund.

It’s winter, and you say there’s no place to ride? Test your horsemanship skills and courage at the Extreme Cowboy Race™ hosted by Craig Cameron, indoors at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo, March 13-15, 2009 in Denver.
