The Denver Rocky Mountain Horse Expo is only three months away and we’re deep in plans. The exciting ’09 Expo line-up should appeal to a huge variety of horse enthusiasts who will visit the arenas and barns, and especially your horses’ stalls.
Here are some of the highlights:
- The Extreme Cowboy Race™: With high stakes obstacles, exceptional riders and Craig Cameron’s colorful narration, it’s always an audience favorite. (Also fun to participate in: call Dalene Cameron at (254) 728-3082 for a race application.)
- The Denver Championship WRCA Ranch Rodeo on Saturday night draws crowds to cheer for the West’s finest ranch cowboy teams. Wild Cow Milking, anyone?
- The Green Ranch & Home Show: Experts will present new ideas and technology for improving sustainability and energy efficiency. We hope it will also entice some newcomers to the horse world.
- As always, we include the Rocky Mountain Trail Riders Conference, Horseman’s College and an ample Trade Show. New this year: Search for America’s Horse Idol.
- For the Breed and Sale Horse Presentations, the Denver schedule includes at least three hours of demonstration time every day (four on Friday) so there will be plenty of opportunity to showcase your horses’ unique talents and beauty.

Sometimes even finding up-to-date information can be difficult. The Green Ranch & Home Show will tackle the problem directly, running as a companion to the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in Denver, March 13-15, 2009.

The bill was sponsored by Senator Jim Isgar and Representative Marsha Looper, both strong proponents of the state’s agricultural interests. The special plates bear the image of a horse and the words, “Support the Horse.” Proceeds from the sale of the plates will benefit the Colorado Horse Development Authority which promotes education and other programs of value to the horse industry in the state.

Ranch Rodeo cowboys who ride out their time on a wily bronc and get the job done with a calf and a rope certainly deserve rewards. So do horses with the heart to stop a runaway steer. What about the best team working together under the dual pressures of the clock and the crowd? They’re winners, too. And let’s remember this: After the Ranch Rodeo dust settles, all of these cowboys will go home, brush down their horses, saddle up again, and do the tough ranch work which ultimately puts food on dinner tables everywhere.

She is actually a bay filly with a "somatic mutation", which is a chance event where a portion of the early embryo has a genetic change that results in some difference, in this case a color change, between some portions of the embryo and the main embryo. Hershey's unique patch of black hair across the withers and down the left foreleg is the result of this somatic mutation.
